Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the two biggest shopping days of the year in the U.S. and Canada.

In Canada, Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, which is also the busiest shopping day in North America, according to the Retail Council of Canada (RCI). The RCI estimates that Canadians spend an average of $1,200 per person on Thanksgiving Day, while Americans spend $2,000. In the United States, the average American spends $3,500 on the holiday.

In the U.S., Black Friday has been a day of controversy in recent years. In 2014, a Walmart employee in Ohio was trampled to death by a mob of shoppers in the store’s parking lot. Last year, a Walmart employee in California was stabbed by a shopper during a Black Friday sale.

Walmart is one of the most vocal proponents of Black Friday, and has been trying to get other companies to open earlier than ever on Thanksgiving Day, according to the Washington Post.

The store’s website is currently promoting Black Friday deals with the slogan “Get it all with Black Friday.”
